The application of eyelash extensions is a highly technical and meticulous process requiring well-trained estheticians and cosmetologists to perform the procedure. Unlike traditional false eyelashes, which are applied as a single strip and last only a couple of days, Eyelash Extensions are a safe way to create a longer lasting, thicker, more glamorous and natural look.

Synthetic extensions are applied on a hair-by-hair basis and singularly bonded to your own lashes for a totally natural look. For the health and comfort of your eyes, Colleen Elizabeth uses formaldehyde-free paramedical glue only. Colleen Elizabeth is a certified Lash extensionist and Certified Instructor through NovaLash. Colleen’s experience working directly for the NovaLash company assures that you are in expert hands.

There are numerous terms for lash extensions such as Mink, Cat Eye, Feather, Russian, Kitten, Volume extensions and more. These names simply distinguish between different lash products, thicknesses and application techniques. Note that lash extensions should always be synthetic (any use of natural fiber would be unsanitary). Colleen is well versed in all of these application techniques. Because there are so many styles of lash extensions, we strongly encourage you to bring a photo of your desired look.

Application of a full set of lashes typically takes 90 minutes and includes full application across the whole eye. A demi set of lashes is a partial set with a light application (with a minimum of 18 lashes per side) across the whole eye and an emphasis on lifting the outer part of the eye. How to Prepare for your lash appointment:

• Please be aware your practitioner will not be able to perform this service if you come in to your appointment with mascara or any other makeup on the lashes, or if your lashes are wet from washing them too close to the appointment
• Four (or more) hours prior to lash application, you must wash the eye area with a mild cleanser. Avoid cleansers that leave oily residue or that contain urea or glycols. Any moisture residue in the lash hair will cause the lash glue to “bloom” or expand and turn grey. The lashes will also fall out quickly if applied to moist lashes.
• There should be no residue of mascara or eye makeup.
• Do not curl your lashes prior to your appointment.
• Because it is preferred that you do not get your lashes wet for 24 hours after application, it is advisable to be sure that your hair is washed prior to your lash appointment.

After-Care Instructions for Lash Extensions:

• Do not use eye makeup removers containing P.E.G. (polyethylene glycol), propylene glycol, or any other glycol-based ingredients or urea. These products will result in failure of lashes to bond.
• Do not use waterproof mascara.
• Wear NON-waterproof mascara ONLY on lashes. Use of waterproof mascara will cause lashes to come loose.
• Consider using NovaLash water soluble mascara and NovaLash eye makeup remover pads. Mascara is only recommended for occasional use (not daily).
• Do not use a lash curler on lashes!
• Do not trim your lashes!
• Avoid pulling, picking or twisting your lash extensions! This can cause natural lash loss.
• Avoid crushing your lashes (i.e., lying face down).
• Avoid using anything that has a natural fiber on your lashes (cotton balls, cotton swabs).
• To avoid lash loss to your natural lash bed, lashes must be professionally touched up regularly (preferably every 2 weeks).
• It is advisable to use a bottle of lash growth serum at least every four months while wearing extensions. This will prevent damage to the natural lash bed.

Not everyone is a good candidate for lash extensions. Here are some things that may make you a bad candidate for this service:

Am I a candidate for Lash Extensions?

If any of the following apply, you are not a candidate for lash extensions…but keep reading to find out how you can still have glamorous lashes without extensions.

• Glue allergy (statistically this is very very rare but can happen). Because of this, we recommend not planning a first time application close to an event.
• Wanting a HUGE amount of volume and thickness of lashes but not having the necessary natural lash bed to apply to.
• Face sleeper or someone who has their face in a face cradle that is not adjustable, such as chiropractic or massage face cradle.
• Twiddler, picker or eye rubber or even brushing/combing the extensions too much.
• Wanting long lashes but wearing close-set eyeglasses or sunglasses.
• Wanting to wear mascara with the lash extensions daily. This will require much more maintenance and perhaps require weekly touch-ups.

What to do if you want glamorous lashes and you are not a candidate for lash extensions:

For fuller lashes, Colleen Elizabeth recommends lash growth serums for those who are not good candidates for lash extensions. The serums are available for sale at the spa and will assist in the rapid growth of your natural lash bed. It should be mentioned that there is a small chance that lash serums will cause an allergic reaction. There is no way to know in advance if one will be allergic to the serums. There are several types of serums and some people do better with one serum over another. Please note that lash serum products will not be returnable or refundable. Because of this, if a serum causes irritation to the eyelids it is advisable to use it on the brows for thicker brow growth.
